In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, we at LSCC express deep sorrow and mourn for our black brothers and sisters and for our country. We can see that our country is deeply divided and that there is a lot of pain that separates us on many fronts. We remember that Jesus not only spoke of the murder we commit with our hands, but the murder that we commit in our hearts.

(Matthew 5:21-22 English Standard Version) 21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.

We have already been living in this hell that Jesus refers to. We as a country have forgotten that to deal with murder, God has to first deal with the murder in our hearts. Let us not cry out for justice without crying out for forgiveness for our own sins. The death of George Floyd sickens us to the sin that lies in our own hearts and we ask God, please forgive us. Forgive us for any hatred that we have harbored in our own hearts for those who belong only to you. “God, justice is something that only you can achieve and we pray for it to happen here on this Earth as it is in Heaven. We pray that you start with our hearts and from our hearts may we change our policies.”
